SALVATORE A. FIORELLA

After graduation from high school in June 1982, Major (Ret) Sal Fiorella enlisted in the Regular Army and underwent basic combat training at Fort McClellan, Alabama. In October 1985, after
completing his three years obligation as an enlisted Soldier enrolled at the University College at Buffalo in New York and joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps (R.O.T.C.). Major Fiorella graduated from College earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and was commissioned as a second lieutenant of Armor in May 1989 and earned the honor of Distinguished Military Graduate.
Major Fiorella’s first assignment as an Armor Officer was with the 6th Battalion 40th Armor, Berlin Germany (1990-92). Positions held included M1A1 Tank Platoon Leader and Support Platoon Leader for what was considered at that time the largest Task Force in the Army. Major Fiorella’s second assignment was with the 2nd Brigade 4thInfantry Division in Korea where he served as the HHC Executive Officer at Camp Red Cloud, Korea (1992-93) then he volunteered for a second tour as the Battalion Scout Platoon Leader at Camp Casey with the 2nd Battalion 72nd Armor (1993-94). Major Fiorella’s final assignment as a Combat Arms Officer was with the 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. His first duty at Fort Riley was with the 1st Battalion 16th Infantry where he served as the Mechanized Infantry Battalion S4 (1994-96). Major Fiorella was then assigned with the 1st Battalion 34th Armor (1996-98) where he assumed command of an M1A1 Tank Company.
Major Fiorella was selected to be an Acquisition Officer in 1998. His first assignment was at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey where he served as an Assistant Product Manager for two Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) programs (1998-2002). His duties included the management of the Vehicle
Intercommunication System (VIS) and the fielding and training of the Combat Service Support Automated Information Systems Interface (CAISI). In 1999 Major Fiorella volunteered for duty in Bosnia where he served as the Detachment Commander for Allied Command Europe Forward Support Element with duty in Sarajevo. For the next five years Major Fiorella served as the Assistant TRADOC Capabilities Manager (TCM). His first assignment with a TCM office was with TCM Future Combat Systems (2002-04) Fort Benning, Georgia and his final tour before retiring from active service was with TCM Ground Sensors at Fort Huachuca, Arizona (2004-07).
In June 2010, Major Fiorella was recalled back into Active Army Service and deployed to the Eastern Sector of Saudi Arabia for one year where he served as the Mechanized Infantry Battalion
Advisor for the King Abdulla-Aziz Brigade of the Saudi Army National Guard.
Major Fiorella is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College (2004), Combined Arms and Services Staff School (1998), Armor Basic Course, Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Army
Material Acquisition Management Course and Airborne school.
Among his military decorations are the Military Service Medal (5th Award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (5th Award), Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Service Defense Medal (2ndAward), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, and NATO Medal.
